Well, this iPhone battery case was a surprise

Otterbox Resurgence Review – One of the best built Otterbox cases ever
Today we’re going to review the Otterbox Resurgence. Right off the bat, this is one of the best built Otterbox cases I’ve seen to date.
This is battery case that will double the life of your iPhone 6. There a lot of nice things about the Resurgence in terms of the functionality of your iPhone in this case and it really seems like Otterbox paid a bit more attention to the design of this iPhone batter case. The power management on the case allows you to charge and sync your iPhone at the same which is nice and has a neat power-loss feature that stops the case from charging after the iPhone reaches 100%.
For our Otterbox Resurgence review for the iPhone 6, we’ve given this battery case a score of 4.1 Eh’s out of 5. The size and the lack of protection is what lowers the score of this decent battery case. If you’re looking for something that’s a little tougher, check out our LifeProof Fre Power review.

Design – Fits well together and feels great as well
In terms of design this is a big case but that is expected since it has a spare battery. It will double the thickness of your iPhone and add about 1/2 inch to the length of the iPhone but that isn’t too noticeable unless you use your iPhone with one-hand a lot.
The build quality of this Resurgence is top notch. At the beginning of this review, we said this is one of the best built Otterbox cases that we’ve seen because it fits so damn well. The texture on the back of the case is nice and its not slippery like the Commuter and Symmetry. Our only gripe is that laying the Resurgence facedown will let your iPhone slide around easily which was a problem on the previous case we reviewed, the Seidio Tetra.
In terms of installation, the case is easy to put together but pretty tough to take apart. Make sure you’ve got a couple of fingernails to go through if you plan on taking this case apart. With that being said, we wouldn’t be too annoyed with the uninstallation process as the tight bumper means that your iPhone is going to stay protected which we’ll cover next.

Protection – Otterbox Certified Drop Protection…whatever that means
In terms of protection, this case is “drop-rated” but with Otterbox cases, you never know how high you can drop it from. Most case manufacturers will have a specific height that the case should protect your iPhone but Otterbox has their own self-certification and the words “Military Spec” on their website. We dropped our Resurgence from about 3 ft and the case stayed together which was all we were expecting from this battery case.
In terms of screen protection, the edges of the case are high enough to keep it off a flat surface and the case fits well together that dust and debris shouldn’t be a problem. Otterbox doesn’t include a screen protector with the Resurgence.
With all things considered, this is a good case for office life. If you’re looking for something tougher that has a battery in it, check out our review for the LifeProof Fre Power. Check back later as we’ll do a comparison of this case against Mophie’s new waterproof battery case!

Functionality – Take your iPhone further
Accessing your iPhone is pretty awesome in this case. The mute switch is quite unique and works incredibly well. Instead of having a flimsy, tiny toggle, Otterbox went with a switch that you easily slide back and forth. Getting to the headphone jack can be done without an extension cord and the buttons are a smidge tougher than other cases but still quite usable.
Charging the case is done using a micro-usb cable and the Resurgence will allow you to charge and sync your iPhone without having to take it out of the case. This is a common feature now but some of the earlier Mophie cases didn’t have that ability.
The auto-shut off on the Resurgence is a newer feature as it shuts off charging once your iPhone gets to a 100% charge rather than trying to keep it topped off at 100%. This auto-off means that you’ll get a bit more out of this case in the long term. To charge your iPhone, all you have to do is press the power button on the back and wait for the magic to happen!
The 2600 mAh battery on the Otterbox Resurgence will definitely provide 2X’s the battery life on your iPhone and from our usage, we think its a little higher than 2X’s. We were surprised that Otterbox didn’t bake this into their marketing fluff as being able to exaggerate numbers is something they like to do (i.e the drop certification with 24+ tests and 238+ hours of testing.

Again, we gave this case a score of 4.1 Eh’s out of 5. If you’re looking for a decent battery case for life in an office environment, consider getting the Otterbox Resurgence. It will keep you going all day and offer a little bit of protection for your iPhone during accidental drops.

Hey Aaron just been doing a bit of research as I tend to agree that the non existent explanation of drop protection for otterbox irritates me too.
I have found that on their website for the resurgence battery case you recently did, it does actually have a mil spec (in the technology information section of the case) it is Military-rated drop protection (MIL STD 810G-516.6) now they of course don’t provide you with any info on what that means but with a good half hour of googling I found out that this means dropped on all faces from 48inches a total of 26 times and must function properly afterwards. So it’s safe to say that this protection is across all otterbox cases, though of course this is the first that has actually said anything. Keep up the good work love the reviews, love to hear from you

Hey Brandon, thanks for the reminder! I believe the height of the drop also relates to the weight of the object being dropped…the bigger it is the tougher the drop certification is. Thx for the comment!

I am ordering this since it looks like it will handle falls better than Mophie, was wondering if the Micro USB will function properly when the phone is hooked up to a car adapter so i can listen to my music from my phone to stereo properly? my fear is that it will say adapter is not compatible with phone (buddy of mine said it happened on his Mophie case a few times. But he got his Mophie as soon as it hit the shelves after the 6 came out)…or would it be better to take phone out of case to use with my car’s built in USB adapter

Never mind it doesn’t work. Love the case, I can now play some games on my phone without worrying about not getting to a charger after my battery reaches 10% in middle of day. Wanted a red, but was but disappointed to see that red was more pricier than the black case (got it off the Amazon link you shared) so just went with the black for budget reasons. Does not sync with car USB adapters. The headphone accessory doesn’t fully work with my apple head phones at times. It tries to activate Siri a lot, I find that I have to remove the head phone jack, then replace it in the port. If not Siri, then it turns my volume way high or turns volume off. So I end up not using the accessory, but I’m always afraid that the headphone wire will come loose when I try take headphones out after use. Other than that, I have no other gripe with the case. It protected my phone after it slipped out of my pocket in weight room and bounced off the metal handle of the weight without any damage to my phone. The battery charges my phone fast and without it getting hot.

Wondering if there is a specific micro USB that is needed or if you could recommend one? Would like to have spares to charge it elsewhere? Thanks for your help and great review.

I’m not sure…there’s such a variety of MicroUSB cables. I’d stick with ones that you would use for data transfer. I’ve got a couple that are just charging cables and they don’t work with the case.

Great review. I would like to know your opinion, which would you get the Resurgence or the Lifeproof Fre Power? I am having a lil bit of a hard choice. They both seem like good battery cases. Thanks

Hey doing research and just watched a ton of your reviews, love em. They are very helpful. I really like the resurgence case but cannot see anything anywhere for a 6s+ case. In your research, have you heard if they’re planning on one? I can’t seem to find any type of mention, just thought you may get a better scoop on these than the average person. Thought I’d ask at least.

I don’t think they’re going to make one for the 6 Plus.
