Our S7 with an Alpha Glass had a slight mishap with a 25 lb weight at the gym? What happened?
Otterbox Alpha Glass Review – Wish the middle was sticky…
Today we’re going to do a review on Otterbox’ Alpha glass for the S7 and a theoretical review for the iPhone 6. This is a decent screen protector in terms of viewability but there is a downside to its design.
For our Otterbox Alpha Glass review, we’ve given it a score of 3.9 Eh’s out of 5. There is a dust issue and the overall fit issue that lowers the score of the Alpha glass. With that being said, we will add that this Otterbox product scores higher than the average screen protector that we’ve reviewed. You might think its silly, linking to the iPhone 6 page but we’ve seen enough products to know that there isn’t much difference between a brands product for a specific device.

Design – Edges will chip if you really want them to
In terms of design, the biggest difference for the Alpha glass when compared to other screen protectors is the lack of adhesive on the viewable area of the screen protector which leads to a couple of problems in terms of protection and usability. The screen protector only covers the touchable area of the S7 but is quite thin, and it doesn’t have a very noticeable edge to it.
The build quality of the Alpha glass is decent but you can still chip the edge if you wanted to. It took more effort to chip this screen protector than others. Our four weeks with the screen protector didn’t result in any wear and tear damage which is why we didn’t lower the Alpha Glass’s build quality score.

Protection – 25lb weight 0, Otterbox Alpha Glass 1
For impact protection, having an extra layer of glass was quite helpful in protecting our Galaxy S7, especially during its date with the edge of a 25 lb weight. We broke the screen protector while filming a some of the weight lifting footage in our Fitbit Blaze review.
The lack of adhesive is an issue when it comes to dust and debris as it will accumulate along the edges over time.

Functionality – Sensitvity isn’t reduced despite the lack of adhesive in the middle
We didn’t have any functionality issues accessing the S7 under the Alpha glass. This was surprising to us because we were expecting the lack of adhesive to be noticeable. Kudos to Otterbox for that.
The S7’s AMOLED screen doesn’t diffuse through the screen protector but if you look closely enough, you will see a grid of tiny dots on under the screen protector.
Fingerprint resistance is above average as we didn’t get annoyed at a gummy screen over the last few months.

I purchased the glass,had it installed on my brand new phone about 2 months ago. The phone fell on the floor and the protector came OFF AND MY PHONE SCREEN SHATTERED!in addition the the protector breaking. Very upset, and disappointed!!
