Patchworks Level Review – Make sure you get the right version

Patchworks Level iPhone 7 Review TableWe’re pretty big fans of Patchwork in general. The Patchworks ITG Silicate glass is one of the best screen protector we’ve ever used (5+ installs and it’s still good!). Patchworks cases are decent as well so we were excited to see a package of Patchworks cases show up on our doorstep. The re-designed Patchworks Level caught us off guard because it’s completely different than the iPhone 6 version.

The handling of the regular Level case is quite nice which is the opposite of the Level Clear versions. For our Patchworks Level review (and Level Clear), we’ve given this case a score of 3.9 Eh’s out of 5. The Level is an above average case but still falls short of the Top 3 cases in the slim case category. At the time of this review, it is sitting at #17 out of the 80 cases we’ve reviewed.

Design – Was the change from the iPhone 6 version a step forward?

As we mentioned earlier, the design of the Level has changed from a single piece case to a two-piece bumper setup. We weren’t excited about this change initially. Two-piece bumper cases tend to be larger which takes away from the sleekness of the iPhone. The Otterbox Commuter and Ballistic Tough jacket are examples of this. This is not the case for the iPhone 7 version of the Patchworks Level.

The Level is actually quite light because the bumper part has a lot of air pockets which cuts down on the weight. The average case weighs about 36 grams and the Level weights 27. The Patchworks Level fits the iPhone well but we did lower the score because of the gap between the polycarbonate shell and TPU bumper at the bottom of the iPhone.

The clear version of the case will slide around easily on a flat surface whereas the soft rubber coating on the dark case doesn’t have this problem. The wear/tear of both these cases will be a little more apparent than other cases. The soft rubber coating on the dark case will scratch and the frosted clear case will scratch. The frosted back does hide the scratches a bit. [divider][/divider]

Protection – The Level will take care of your iPhone

On paper, the Level meets MIL-STD 810G but doesn’t specify a drop height. We’re pretty confident that it will take care of any accidental drops from pockets and faces.

Dust and debris shouldn’t be an issue despite the gaps because the shell fits tightly with the iPhone 7.

Functionality – One of the easiest cases we’ve used

Accessing your iPhone is decent in the case. We didn’t have any issues with the buttons. The port cutouts are large and the edges of the case don’t interfere with the screen. Despite being larger than the iPhone more than the average case.

One-handed usage isn’t great with the clear versions of the case and is much better with the black Patchworks Level.

What did she say about the Patchworks Level?

(This is our attempt at seeing things from a female perspective):

  • “It’s slippy”
  • “Clear version looks cheap”
  • “This one (regular Level) is nice”
