Best Apple Watch Series 8 Screen Protectors
Screen protectors are a must for an Apple Watch. Over the last eight years, we’ve found ourselves lightly grazing corners and desks with our wrists. The Apple Watch’s screen is tough but not totally scratch resistant, so it really annoys us when their scratches show up on our Apple Watches. Especially when they’re new!
We’ve been using a variety of different screen protectors from various brands, ranging from cheap films, expensive glass, and pseudo glass. One of our go-to brands for screen protectors (FloLab) stopped making them last year, so we had to find another top pick. As of now, our go-to screen protectors have been from the Amazon brand called LK.
LK’s biggest selling point for us is the film doesn’t affect the sensitivity of the Apple Watch. Products like the Zagg Glass Fusion and, to a lesser extent, the Rhinoshield 3D Impact will reduce the sensitivity of the edges of the Apple Watch.
LK comes in a five-pack, and each film will last about 1-2 months before they start to show moderate damage. The 2-month lifespan per film might sound bad, but here’s the thing, the wear and tear in a 2-month lifespan aren’t much shorter than products like the Zagg Fusion Glass, which cost significantly more.
The runner-up for screen protectors is the 3D Impact from Rhinoshield. Rhinoshield is a materials company first, accessory manufacturer second, and their products are designed to be tough.
The 3D Impact for the Apple Watch Series 8 is going to provide your device with the ultimate in impact protection. Our tests with the 3D Impact for the iPhone don’t even register on the force meter that we have. It’s that tough.
The downside of Rhinoshield 3D Impact is that it will start to show scratches. The hardness of the product is around 3-4 on the Moh’s scale, so it won’t take much to leave a mark. The edges on the 3D Impact will also get caught on things and may peel the protector off.
Best Apple Watch Series 8/Ultra Portable Battery Pack
In general, the battery life of an Apple Watch is a bit contentious. Apple calls it an “all-day” battery but apparently to them, a day is only 18 hours. Sure the battery life has been getting better over the last few years, but it’s borderline silly that you have to charge your Apple Watch Series 8 once a day. The Apple Watch Ultra will be better, but you’re basically paying a premium for an extra day of power?
To overcome Apple’s “All-Day” battery, get a portable battery bank. For the Apple Watch, we’re recommending an older battery bank, the Mophie All In One Powerstation. This version has an 8000 mah battery, an Apple Watch charger, and a wireless charger.
This wireless power bank isn’t going to have any issues topping off your Apple Watch Series 8 and iPhone 14 overnight during a weekend excursion.
If you’re looking for an alternative or something cheaper, we’d go with an ESR Halolock 10k. You can charge your Apple Watch (if you bring a cable) and iPhone if you want to. We prefer the ESR Halolock’s over other products as the magnets on the battery pack are really strong, and you can actually use your iPhone easily when it’s on.
ESR Halolock 10k is actually #2 in our Best MagSafe Power Bank For the iPhone 14, so check that post out if you want to know what might be better.
Best Charger For the Apple Watch Series 8/Ultra
Apple chargers are still one of the best when it comes to charging. Up until recently, we were using two 20W chargers to charge an iPhone 14 and Apple Watch, but we’ve swapped to the two-port 35W charger lately (you save a plugin!).
Apple Chargers, in general, are a bit more expensive, but you will get the best charging experience from them. We’ve been testing chargers left, right, and center over the last couple of years, and Apple’s chargers are always the most consistent.
If you need an alternative, go with an Anker charger. Anker’s products have charge speeds that fall within 10% of Apple’s, but they do run hotter.
We’re not as enthusiastic about multi-chargers as they were great (visually) for charging your iPhone and Apple Watch overnight, but with fast charging and sleep tracking, these multi-chargers aren’t as useful. If these things still interest you, check out the full Multi-Device Chargers roundup we did about them a while back.
Best Cases For the Apple Watch Series 8
Our choices for the best case for the Apple Watch have fluctuated over the years. In previous years, we would say go with a Pitaka case or a Rhinoshield one. However, we’ve moved away from the Pitaka case over the last year because we felt our blue Apple Watch didn’t need the visual boost.
Regardless, the Pitaka Aramid fiber case will provide the edge of your Apple Watch with a bit of protection. Especially if you have a stainless steel version, as that finish tends to scratch much easier than the aluminum-cased Apple Watch.
For ultimate protection, we suggest the Rhinoshield CrashGuard. These cases allow you to mix and match colors so you can make the look of your Apple Watch your own. The edge of the case is high enough that you won’t need a screen protector from our perspective, but it will pair well with the 3D Impact screen protector that Rhinoshield makes.
Unlike the majority of Apple Watch cases, the Rhinoshield CrashGuard wraps around the watch strap area, ensuring that it doesn’t pop off (the Pitaka case will pop off occasionally). It sits far up enough that sweat and grime will not collect much, which is something we can’t say for other cases.
Best Working Out Strap For the Apple Watch Series 8
From our perspective, the only strap you need to use is the Apple Sport Loop at the gym. We do a lot of CrossFit workouts, so it’s nice to be able to adjust on the fly when we need to and not to have our wrists feel like it’s sopping wet all the time. The airflow from the velcro is really nice.
If you need an alternative for working out, we’d go with a Nike Sport Band. Our wrist still feels wet in the loop, but at least there are a ton of holes for ventilation. If you’re curious to know what the difference is between fake sports bands and Apple sports bands, we did a comparison video a couple of years back, so check that out.
Best Fancy Strap For The Apple Watch Series 8/Ultra
Apple Leather Link is the best fancy strap for the Apple Watch. It’s easy to adjust, and it feels really comfortable. We really like the flexibility of the Apple Leather Link, and it doesn’t feel bulky. We made a comparison between fake and real leather link’s a while back, so check out if you’re wondering if you can cheap out or not.
If you need something more traditional, we’d recommend the silicone/leather watch straps from MIFA. You get the look of leather coupled with the flexibility of silicone, so it doesn’t feel as rigid as a traditional watch strap while looking like a traditional watch strap.
