A decent clear iPhone 7 case that comes in a several different colors
Urban Armor Gear Plasma Review – Cool looking case with different colors!
We’re big fans of Urban Armor Gear’s products. Their iPad case is our #1 case for iPad Pro 9.7 inch due to all the extra functionality of the case. Their Metropolis wallet is also a great product and the Urban Armor Gear Monarch is currently the #2 case on our Top 10 Slim Case list. The Urban Armor Gear Plasma isn’t as good but still performs better than the average iPhone case. The standout feature of the Plasma is the actual design and texture of the case. There is a lot for your fingers to hold onto so it won’t slip out of your hand easily.
And thank goodness Urban Armor Gear got rid of the cutouts on the back!
There are a couple of odd things about the Plasma, though. The shock cushions on the back of the case seem out of place for us and what is the deal with the bottom of the case?
For our Urban Armor Gear Plasma review, we’ve given this case a score of 3.8 Eh’s out of 5. It scores better than the average iPhone case at 3.7 Eh’s out of 5. We like this case a little better than the Urban Armor Gear Pathfinder but it’s a far cry from the Urban Armor Gear Monarch. If you’re looking for something similar to the Urban Armor Gear Plasma, check out the Poetic Affinity (it’s one of Aaron’s personal favourites).
Design – It has a unique design but we’re not sure what to do with the back of the case
Some of you might like the design of the Plasma. Some of you might not. There is a lot going on with the case but at the end of the day, the Plasma is a transparent case that comes in several different colors. The case is a smidge thicker than the the average case but is slimmer than most cases.
The iPhone fits well in the Plasma but is there is almost barely any friction between the front and backs of the case to keep it from sliding around on a flat surface. The case will wear better than other clear cases because of the coloured shell and designs on the back of the case. The Plasma doesn’t feel like it will slip out of your hand easily.
Our biggest issue for the Plasma’s design are the cutouts at the bottom of the case. We’re big fans of efficiency, but the headphone cutout at the bottom of the case just looks sloppy on the iPhone 7. We wish that the case would have a similar design to the LIMITLESS cases by Mous which can work between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6 without having the headphone jack cutout standout like a sore thumb.

Protection – Shock Cushions? Seriously?
For protection, the Plasma is rated to Mil-Std 810G, but they don’t specify a height which we’ll assume to be at least 4ft. The corners could probably take a 6ft drop with ease, but we can vouch that it can take a face plant at 4ft. If you’re planning on tossing your iPhone 7 in the air for fun, the Plasma should offer all the protection you need.
The case fits the iPhone well so dust/debris shouldn’t be an issue and works well with glass screen protectors. Our biggest concern about the Urban Armor Gear Plasma are the Shock Cushions. These are little black nubs of rubber that Urban Armor Gear classifies as the 2nd layer of protection for the case.
There are five Shock Cushions on the back of the case which doesn’t seem enough to protect much. The cushions do not extend past the corners of the case. Shock Cushions sounds great on paper, but it doesn’t seem useful in reality.

Functionality – Helps with the handling of your iPhone
Accessing your iPhone is a breeze in the case. The buttons are large but don’t fully cover the iPhone, so they are easy to use. The edges don’t get in the way of the screen, and you have room to plug-in your headphones into headphone jack-less iPhone 7. Using your iPhone 7 in one hand is quite nice because your fingers have lots of texture to hold onto when you’re trying to quickly snap a picture of that beaver floating down the river.

What did she say about the Urban Armor Gear Plasma?
(This is our attempt at seeing things from a female perspective):”
- “Nice colors. I am not sure how women would “vote” on these cases”
- “I like the cases but they are bit rougher looking”
- “So it is a split between the ladies who want pretty or clear and ladies that want protection that looks nice”
