Otterbox Statement Review – More than just a pretty case, the leather on the Statement helps with the handling of the iPhone

Otterbox Statement Review Table - Galaxy S7The Otterbox Statement is one of Otterbox’s fancier cases as it comes with a piece of leather that comes from a century-old leatherworks, which sounds cool. With that being said, the majority of the Otterbox Statement isn’t leather so can we call it a leather iPhone case?

With that sarcastic note out of the way, for our Otterbox Statement Review, we’ve given this case a score of 4.3 Eh’s out of 5. Overall, it is one of the tougher slim cases we’ve reviewed, but the bulk and wear/tear might be a worry for some. The leather on the bottom of the case is quite nice because it enhances the grip of the iPhone in your hand.

We grew quite fond of the Statement during our review period because the design made us reminisce about the first iPhone because of how the back look. Find out how it stacks up against other clear-backed cases and leather cases. Click here if you’re wondering what else of Otterbox’s we’ve reviewed for the iPhone 6.

Design – A bulkier case that handles decently

Otterbox Statement Review - Thickness - iPhone 6s cases

Like most Otterbox cases, the Statement is bulky

For design, the Statement case has several parts to it.The edges of the case is quite rubbery, the top 1/2 of the back is clear and apparently scratch resistant and the bottom is where the leather resides. The leather covers approx. 30% of the back of the case.

The Statement fits well together as the seams between the different types of materials don’t show. The scratch resistant back will still scratch over time and from our perspective, will go through an “ugly” phase. The close-up footage in our review videos does show a bit of scuffing after two weeks of usage.

Protection – It’s Otterbox Drop-Certified…whatever that means

When it comes to protection, the edges of the case are high enough to keep the iPhone off a flat surface. For drop protection, the iPhone is going to be fine from any normal, day-to-day drop though Otterbox doesn’t state what the drop height is. Their “Otterbox Drop Certified” does state that there were 24 tests and 238 test hours applied to the Statement which, to a regular person, doesn’t mean much. The question is: “Will my iPhone die if I was to drop it”. The answer is no.

Functionality – No problems here

Flashback from the orignal iPhone!

Accessing the iPhone inside the case is top notch. Buttons are easy to use, ports are big and the edges of the case don’t get in the way of accessing your iPhone.

I would say no. The edges of the Statement case roll up high on the iPhone.
